Chapter 13: Resolution
I was standing out by the parking-lot, smelling Jacob in the woods and hearing Adam wait for me in his little beat up 1987 VW Cabriolet. But I felt bad he couldn't see me, so I walked towards the half-nakid boy who caught my infatuation.
"I was only watching you." He said as I climbed through the brush and into the dark cover of the wooded area.
"That's sounds a little creepy." I smirked and he pulled me up in his arms.
"You know what I meant. I figure we could run home togather." He put me back on the ground and I bit my lip.
"I kind of promised Adam he could come over and help finish our projoct for class." I pointed out and Jacob sighed.
"Just bail and tell him you finished it yourself. You know he will only slow you down. You love doing that kind of stuff on your own." He nudged me and I nodded, in agreement. "Come on, I wanted to walk you home." He held out his hand and I looked back at the boy who was gripping his steering wheel and trying to look over the crowd for me, running the gas out of his car on idle. I felt a little bad but knew that something was pulled me a direction I wanted to go.
I didn't really ever need to worry about school or relationships with my peers because I would soon look so much older than them that I would have to drop out or move, or even skip a few grades because of my knowledge. But I didn't know why letting down a classmate, a friend, made me feel bad about my descision.
"Nessie?" I heard Jake's voice break my thought. He was holding my hand and I pulled away. "Are we going to go?" He looked over my shoulder to see what was my concern but I pushed him in the direction of my house. He smirked and in a blur pulled his shorts off as he was running through the trees now larger than me as a wolf, but not faster. I ran ahead and stopped every now and then to let him catch up and he would hackle at me but I just smiled and within a few minutes we were to my quiet cottage. He sniffed the air as I opened the front door and turned my back on him, he was back into his human form and covered with his ratty shorts pulling me with him. "They left earlier, so I'm assuming their out buying gifts for Rose's party tomorrow."
I slapped my forhead, how had I forgotten in the vastness of my mind that it was Rose's first human birthday since last being a vampire. I hadn't gotten her a gift or anything. Though I knew she wouldn't be too concerned. She would probably be too concerned with the time we are wasting when her and Emmett could be running away and starting a family by now.
"Is Emmett okay?" I asked assuming he had seen him today.
"He's not so pale anymore... And he likes steak and A1 Sauce alot. He has Alice doin' overtime. Asked me to join him for seconds, but I had to come see you." He explained as we reached my room and I hid under the covers of my bed, where I felt safe. He joined me and I felt so warm, though we were the only two in my family with the same tempurature of skin.
"Do you hate the way I smell?" I asked him oddly and he looked in my eyes, a little confused.
"I remember you and my father had little spats about mutts and bloodsuckers, how you smelt to him and he to you." I shrugged and he hugged me taking in a wiff of my hair.
"I like you just the way you are. You don't smell anything like them. You are alive, and your blood is warm. You smell just how a human should smell. I'm sorry if I always reek of wet dog." He laughed and shook me in his arms. I touched his face and showed him I didn't mind, that the smell didnt bother me and then felt his breath catch up to him as I brought my hand back down. He put his forhead on mine and looked into my eyes. "How old should I be?"
"Twenty-three?" I made a tiny guess and he brushed his cheek on mine.
"How old am I still?"
"Seventeen..." I whispered.
"Is it still weird that I am in-love with a six year old?" He whispered back and I felt the heat in his breath tickle my ear.
"I have the birthday of a child, the body of a teenager, and the mind of an adult. I don't think this is weird anymore." I added and he kissed my cheek. I felt the tingle of his lips touching my skin shoot throughout my body and to my fingertips as they curled around his arms. He kissed my lips and I pulled back. "Edward will know, he can read our screaming minds."
"He needs to learn that he can't stop fate." Jake added and I touched his neck. We can't do this. His face drew back and cocked. "I wasn't doing anything, just kissing you. Just holding you. That's all I have ever wanted to do. Feel how warm you are, and small and fragile."
"I am not fragile."
"I know," He corrected himself and sighed as he sat up and let the cold in from outside the sheets. "I will never do anything unless I am 100% sure that's what you want. Plus I have a vampire breathing down the back of my neck making sure I don't touch you."
"I'm sorry, I know." I wrapped my arms around his neck and he layed back down, and ended up falling asleep to the sound of his heart beating.

"I want you to leave." I heard my father say and it startled me awake. "Don't come back ever again, grow old and die without her. Spend the rest of your days as a human being and leave my family alone."
"We meant nothing, we we're just laying there." Jacob's voice came from the livingroom and I could hear my mother's angry hisses in the background.
"She's barely 6 years old, and you have to get your grubby paws on her." He small voice said.
"You know full well she isn't six, shes smart enough to live on her own, and beyond the normal. You just have to understand--"
"Oh I understand. I know you love her, that its more than love, but I know how this will end. With a wedding and the feeling for a family you can never have, but it will always end in her not being our child anymore. We are not ready to turn her over to you. To let her choose the life she wishes to take. She will always have a large family here, in this town, but not if she goes with you." I heard my father rattle off. "She will only have you, and miss her family forever."
"Her family is dwindling now, if Rose and Emmett leave, word may get out. Somehow, that we have the cure for Vampire's, and that you can start over and not life this horrible life." Jacob bit back.
"Don't say such a thing, this life is amazing. I am happy to have such a powerful love for my husband and my daughter and my sisters and brothers. This is the life I have chosen." My mother added.
"That is the love I have for Nessie, Bella. Nothing more and nothing less. Though I may not be a Vampire or a Human or Half of what she is I will love her in the same way Edward loves you, for eternity."
"But you will not live forever! You will leave her with heartbreak and I refuse to live the rest of this immortal life seeing her like that." Mom bellowed and they all went silent.
"Is it so much to ask my opinion on the matter?" I heard my father say as he plucked the words from my head. "She's been awake."
"I don't want her opinion. I have made up my mind." Mom said and I heard her run out the door and through the forest until I could not hear her feet fly anymore.
"Give her a few days to get over it. But please don't break my only child's heart." I heard Edward sigh and close the door behind him to chase after her. I'm assuming his change in heart was probably becauase he searched the deep caverns of Jacob's mind and found only love and loyalty in his heart, unlike the old him who was fifteen or sixteen acting on impulse to kiss or say or do whatever he thought was right to get the girl. To get my mother, but my father came back and left Jake with nothing. Now he had me and he was not about to lose something he loved, again.
